  24. What is a Transition Program?

  1. Where are you located?
We are located in Massachusetts in the United States.
However, we have designed our programs in such a way that all of our services are available worldwide by telephone from the comfort of your home or office.

  2.  Are you a veterinary facility?
We are not a veterinary facility.  A veterinary facility is staffed by veterinarians and exists for the purposes of diagnosing and treating disease and injury, usually acute, and prescribing laboratory tests, drug therapies and/or surgical interventions.  We do none of the above.

  3. What exactly do you do for pets?
In contrast to veterinary treatment, our focus is on supporting wellness in your pet.  We 'support' your pet with a variety of health enhancing modalities that are proven to create and maintain improved health through support of a stronger immune system.

Just as with humans, 95% of what keeps your pet in good health takes place not at the doctor's office but in daily living. There are many ways to approach health and wellness that do not require medical treatment, and that is where Pet Wellness Resource Center comes in.

We wholeheartedly believe that it is the whole picture of the whole pet that inspires the best solutions.

We do not address a single issue by itself. That is because we rarely see a problem that isn't intertwined with other aspects of your pet’s health and behavioral picture.  For example, poor nutrition is frequently a cause of behavioral issues. So we wouldn't just look at the behavior, we would also look at nutrition. But, chronic low grade pain can also be a cause of behavioral issues. So we wouldn't just look at nutrition by itself, we would also look for areas of possible pain.

Our approach is to take a very comprehensive look at your whole pet instead of just at what is commonly referred to in medicine as the ‘patient’s presenting complaint. We want to be acutely aware of every aspect of your pet’s physical, mental, nutritional, behavioral health and activity. Armed with this information we are able to map out a path to optimal health for your pet.

Ultimately our goal at Pet Wellness is to help you  to avoid acute and chronic ailments and the necessity to seek out acute medical care by supporting health. But we also  are here to support you during times of pet illness as well as during recovery. We will do our best to provide you with a list of resources to that end wherever possible.

We do not prescribe drugs or do surgical interventions. There are times however when we recognize that conventional medical treatment is necessary and we will recommend that in such cases. If you ever feel that your pet is in acute distress it is necessary to contact your veterinarian immediately.

  4. If I am working with a veterinarian can I also work with you?
Yes.  All of our recommendations are compatible with veterinary care and treatment.

  5. How are you different than a holistic veterinarian?
We are not a veterinary facility.

  6. If I have a homeopathic veterinarian do I still need to work with you?
Just as your regular veterinarian has a medical specialty, a homeopathic veterinarian specializes in homeopathic remedies to treat specific conditions.  This does not take into consideration many other aspects of your dog’s whole health picture. That is what we take into consideration. That is our specialty.

  7. If I am already working with some alternative health care practitioners can I continue to work with them?
Yes.  All of our recommendations are compatible with alternative health care and treatment.

  8. Do you prescribe drugs?
    No.

  9. Do you treat cancer?
We can support your pet’s health while it is being treated for an illness such as cancer.  Medical cancer treatments can be hard on your pet.  Depending on your pet’s particular circumstance, we will work with you on how best to support your pet during treatment.
  10. Do you treat CRF (Chronic Renal Failure)?
As with cancer and other seriously debilitating chronic illnesses, we work to support your pet with nutrition and recommendations for other alternative modalities to compliment the medical care your pet may already be receiving.  Pets may have far fewer  unpleasant symptoms of CRF when supported in this way.

  11. How can you make a diagnosis without blood work or laboratory tests?
We do not diagnose. However it is not uncommon for us to notice conditions that may have been overlooked by a veterinarian. What Our Clients Are Saying If we suspect that your pet has a medical condition that needs to be diagnosed and treated by a veterinarian we will share our concerns with you and urge you seek traditional medical treatment.

  12. What if I live in another state? Do you need to see my pet in person to evaluate him?
No, we do not need to see your pet. Because our services are quite comprehensive in the material that they cover and are extremely effective tools in assessing your pet’s needs, we are able to make our services available by telephone to our clients worldwide from the comfort of your home or office.

  13. I recently adopted a shelter dog.  Can you help me with his problem areas even though I don’t know much about his past?
Yes, we can definitely help you.  Even if you have not had your pet for very long, many of the questions in the Step #2 Health Evaluation about your pet’s current condition will tell us quite a bit about your pet’s history.

  14. How do I know whether my pet needs a Consultation, a Health Evaluation, or Support Module?
All new clients begin their path to wellness with a Step #1 Consultation.  The majority of our clients have their pet’s issues addressed and resolved through a consultation.  If we determine from the consultation that your pet’s health issues warrant a more in depth evaluation, we will recommend a Step #2 Health Evaluation. If together we determine from the results of the Health Evaluation that you need additional support in performing our recommendations for your pet, we will then suggest you go to a Step #3 Support Module.

  15. What happens in a Consultation?
During a Step #1 Consultation which usually lasts 45 minutes to an hour, we bring you to a conscious awareness of your pet’s needs. During a consultation we will clarify the reason for your call and ask you to tell us about your pet. We believe that the things you notice about your pet are import; we listen to you. We will also ask a variety of specific questions about your pet. We will determine what we perceive to be your pet’s particular issues and will make recommendations for corrections and improvements.  Sometimes an issue may be addressed by some simple changes in how you care for your pet. At other times if we suspect a more in depth long standing problem with your pet’s health we will recommend that you proceed to Step #2 Health Evaluation.

However, if we suspect that your pet has a medical condition that needs to be diagnosed and treated by a veterinarian we will share our concerns with you and urge you seek veterinary medical treatment.

  16. What happens in a Health Evaluation?
A Pet Wellness Step #2 Health Evaluation is a very comprehensive question and answer evaluation during which you provide information to us about your pet’s physical appearance, habits, emotional attitudes and behavior.  After reviewing this we will provide you with a two- part report.  Part One of the report will cover our comprehensive interpretation of the information you have provided.  Part Two of the report will outline our recommendations for how to improve and/or resolve the issues outlined in Part One.

  17. What is a Support Module?
A Step #3 Support Module is designed to support you in confidently following through on our recommendations during the crucial time after a Step #2 Health Evaluation.  A support Module lasts for the period of one month and offers weekly telephone and email communication, weekly review of your pet’s progress, and adjustments to our recommendations based on your pet’s improvements.

  18. Are there hidden costs and fees like drugs or laboratory work that I should know about?
There are no hidden costs. On our website we outline all charges associated with our services.

  19. Do you guarantee results?
As with all health matters and life in general, there are no guarantees. However, your pet’s health issues are generally not unique. We can make some assumptions about the level of progress we can expect based on the information you have provided to us about your pet and on you, the owner’s commitment to following our suggestions and recommendations.

  20. Do you work with animals besides cats and dogs?
Most of our work is done with dogs and cats.  As with birds, smaller animals and reptiles are usually in need of veterinary care by the time they are showing symptoms of distress.  Be sure you have already found a veterinarian before your pet shows symptoms of illness.

  21. Do you work with birds?
Yes. We can help you with food related and behavior issues and day to day bird care.  However because avian health is so fragile, by the time a bird is showing symptoms of illness (ruffled feathers, not vocalizing, discharge from beak to name a few) they are likely already in need of veterinary care. Please locate and contact an avian veterinarian before your bird needs their services, so that the relationship is in place already if you should find your bird suddenly displaying symptoms of illness.

  22. Can I read testimonials from your clients?
Yes, we have posted letters of appreciation from our clients on our website. What Our Clients Are Saying

  23. Do you take personal checks?
We take payment in the form of PayPal and all major credit cards.

  24. What is a Transition Program?
The Pet Wellness Transition Program is a month long supported program where we assist you in gradually removing your pet from a diet of commercial pet food to a healthy whole foods diet.

To avoid the discomfort of diarrhea and constipation that often occurs when foods are changed quickly, any pet that has been on a commercial diet for more than a few months needs to make the switch in foods gradually. Digestive juices have become very weakened by the poor quality of commercial pet food and need to be gradually increased to accommodate new foods. The stomach also needs to become accustomed to the presence and digestion of new and different foods. Imagine for a moment that for some time your own diet consisted mostly of cereal and one day you stopped eating cereal and switched to double cheeseburgers. You would undoubtedly feel pretty uncomfortable and very likely even become sick from the radical change in your diet. It is exactly the same for our pets. This is why we always make diet changes for your pet gradually.
